Established in 1996, Cinestructures specialises in the design and management of digital boutique cinemas, hotel cinemas, home cinemas and healthcare screening rooms for Extra Care Homes specialising in the care of people with early stages of dementia. We work closely with our Clients and technical collaborators in the creative process from the outset with the aim of delivering good design, technical excellence as well as providing value for money.

Bill Chew

AA Dipl, RIBA, ARB

(Chartered Architect)

Cinestructures associate company is Bill Chew Architect Ltd, an architectural practice formed by Bill Chew in 1988 in King's Cross, London. He studied at Leeds School of Architecture and The Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, qualifying as an architect in 1976. Bill’s career over 40 years has been spent in architectural design, cinema planning and design, construction management and consultancy. His experience covers cinema and multiplex developments, commercial, leisure and residential projects, large retail schemes and university buildings and campuses.

 

Bill has held senior positions at Bernard Engle, Ove Arup & Partners and was a Consultant to The Technical Office of H.H. The Emir of Qatar on the University of Qatar project completed in 1986.

 

Bill has a wide and detailed experience of most aspects of building and building construction technology. He has had a long and successful record of project, personnel, organisational and financial management. Bill is a director of Bill Chew Architect Ltd, Cinestructures International Ltd and Filmhaus (Cinemas) Ltd.

 

In addition to architecture, Bill has contributed articles to many technical journals including Cinema Technology, Screen Trade Magazine, SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal, Leisure Management, Theatre World and Sound Solutions, Cinema Record, Architect’s Journal and AAQ.

 

Bill is currently writing a book ‘From Architecture to Arthouse: A Cinema Designer's Odyssey' which he hopes to publish in early 2022.

Alan Kay

CEng, MIET, MIEEE

(Chartered Engineer)

Alan Kay has been involved with professional and broadcast sound and vision for over 40 years. During this time he has engineered a wide range of facilities for clients in the UK, United States, Europe and South Africa.

 

These projects include sound studios, television studios, broadcast transmission suites, edit suites, telecine grading rooms, film and video preview theatres and computer graphics labs.

 

All of these projects have been designed to the highest specifications and in full compliance with national regulatory requirements Computer networking technology is very frequently a key element of modern system installations. It is an area where our team has great experience and expertise.

 

Alan’s recent projects have ranged from international high-availability web-server installations through to individual home automation installations with full remote access, IP multi-room media access systems and full-specification Internet-based CCTV security systems.

 

Before developing a specification, Alan spends time with a client to discuss their expectations in depth. The specification is then presented to the client to ensure that the finished project will perform as required by the client organisation.

 

Alan joined Cinestructures as it’s Technical Director in 2001.
